Yazz crying in Hollyoaks
Yazz was left in shock by the diagnosis (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (October 11) episode that is now available to stream on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Thursday, October 12 at 7pm.

Yazz Cunningham (Haiesha Mistry) was left reeling during the latest offering of the popular serial, as she was diagnosed with premature menopause.

The journalist and school receptionist, as viewers know, has been struggling in the wake of her ectopic pregnancy earlier this year, with Tom (Ellis Hollins) at a loss on how to help.

Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi), meanwhile, returned home last month and was shocked to discover just how much Yazz had been struggling, encouraging her to open up.

Concerned about her seemingly accelerated heart rate, Misbah took her daughter to the hospital for some tests earlier this week, clashing with Sharon Bailey (Jamelia), who was quick to remind Misbah that she no longer works at the hospital.

Yazz, meanwhile, was worried that there was an issue with her heart, as was Misbah, who encouraged her to remain calm until the results came back.

Wednesday’s streaming edition of Hollyoaks provided Yazz with answers, with Misbah refusing to wait for a doctor to relay the results to them, instead making her way behind the reception desk to retrieve them for herself.

‘Good news’, said Misbah, ‘Your hearts fine.’

Her expression indicated confusion, however, which worried Yazz, as her mum said: ‘The tests are suggesting premature menopause.’

The revelation left Yazz in shock, as she broke down, telling Misbah that she feels like her body is failing her.

Tom, meanwhile, attempted to make a joke but his efforts backfired, with Yazz berating him for it, leaving him yet again confused over how best to help her.

Brent in Hollyoaks at the folly
Brent couldn’t have killed Rayne (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Hollyoaks spoilers for next week have confirmed that Brent (Jesse Fox) couldn’t have possibly killed Rayne Royce (Jemma Donovan), with Phoenix Hathaway (Tylan Grant) having proof to clear his name.

Rayne, was fans will recall, was tragically murdered during a lavish mansion party which was intended to help save her tanking career.

The celebrations, however, were cut short when her lies and abuse was exposed, with one party-goer taking shocking revenge. Fingers have naturally been pointed in the aftermath, with Brent prime suspect in the investigation.

But despite him kidnapping her, Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) has repeatedly leapt to Brent’s defence, urging her fellow villagers to trust her word when she says that he simply isn’t capable of murder.

Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner) wasn’t so sure, nor was James (Gregory Finnegan), with the latter having Brent beaten up in prison in order to convince him to confess to the murder, with the lawyer hoping to exonerate his son.

But this twisted tale takes yet another turn later this week, with Friday’s (October 13) edition of the Channel 4 soap seeing Brent more or less cleared of the crime.

Romeo organises a memorial for his late girlfriend Rayne, with his friends offering their support in helping him arrange it.

Peri picks up a portrait of Rayne, which Romeo subsequently destroys in heated scenes, with his behaviour leaving Phoenix scared.

Determined to make things right, Romeo issues an apology to Phoenix, who later speaks out and confesses that he knows for sure that Brent couldn’t have killed Rayne.

But just what information does Phoenix have?

That remains to be seen, but Romeo is enraged, determined to ensure Brent goes to prison, even if the charge is for kidnapping Peri, with a row ensuing between he and Brent, which is witnessed by Rayne’s fans.

Rayne’s memorial takes place later in the week, with the day in question proving difficult for Romeo, who lashes out, with his outburst caught on the livestream.

Brent, meanwhile, overhears a conversation between Peri and Romeo and jumps to the wrong conclusion, with things turning physical.

Yazz Maalik (Haiesha Mistry) is forced to break up a fight between Romeo and Brent, but not everything is as it seems, with video evidence that was live-streamed proof that Brent purposely set things up to make it look like Romeo was attacking him.

Will Romeo retaliate?

Tony receives a major shock which knocks him for six (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Tony Hutchinson (Nick Pickard) is absolutely horrified in Hollyoaks next week by a story in a newspaper which doesn’t bode well for his public image.

The councillor and landlord of The Dog in the Pond has been struggling financially as of late, with his beloved boozer not exactly bringing in the cash that one might’ve expected it to.

After getting wind of his mate’s predicament, Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) offers a helping hand, telling Tony that he’ll put together a better menu that people might actually be interested in.

Tony is quick to dismiss the idea of a menu titled Ste’s Stodgy Spread, but when Zoe Anderson (Garcia Brown) and Sharon Bailey (Jamelia) accidentally pick up it and ask to order food from it, Ste steps in.

After giving it some thought, Tony decides to go go head with Ste’s suggested menu, albeit adding some of his own upper-class tweaks beforehand but, despite this, he continues to worry about The Dog’s finances.

Opening up to Diane (Alex Fletcher), Tony explains that he’s unsure of how they’ll manage to support the family with the boozer not bringing in the desired cash.

The publican is hoping that his luck will change when he attempts to become an online influencer but his efforts don’t exactly pan out. He’s soon saved, however, when actual influencer Libby offers him some help in bringing the punters in.

Subsequent scenes see Tony face more trauma, as he’s interviewed by a food journalist who gets the wrong end of the stick.

Tony, realises that he could be front page news and, much to Diane and Ste’s dispair, he claims that once a week The Dog provides free food for those struggling to make ends meet!

The journalist is blown away by such kinds and generosity and, with people soon flocking in for a free food, Tony is optimistic. Things, however, take quite a turn, with the Chester Herald publishing an article on Tony’s personal life instead, which leaves him absolutely devastated.

He’s also keen to find out who shared such personal information with a journalist. Will Tony get the answers he’s after?

Romeo and Peri in Hollyoaks
Romeo and Peri are harbouring a huge secret (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Friday’s (October 6) episode that is now available to stream on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Monday October 9 at 7pm.

Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) and Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner) have been pretty evasive since Rayne Royce’s (Jemma Donovan) murder, with the duo refusing to discuss the events leading up to the horrific crime.

Rayne, as fans know, was tragically killed during her lavish social media party, which was streamed online for her followers to see.

The identity of the killer remains a mystery, though with every single person in attendance having been wronged by the influencer, it’s safe to say that there are no shortage of suspects.

Romeo, however, is currently prime suspect, despite the fact he was madly in love with Rayne, who was violently abusing him prior to her demise.

James (Gregory Finnegan) has been worried sick about his future in recent episodes, fearing that Romeo could be facing a life behind bars. As a result, he begged his son to keep shtum about the abuse he suffered at Rayne’s hands, believing this could be perceived as a motive for her murder.

The lawyer insisted that Romeo get out of dodge for a little while until things cool down and, after succeeding in getting his son to depart the village, he turned his attention to Brent (Jesse Fox), hoping he could convince him to plead guilty to the crime.

Brent, however, refused, with James therefore taking drastic action, with subsequent scenes confirming that he’d had Brent beaten up in prison, which led to him confessing.

Peri, meanwhile, was adamant that Brent did not kill Rayne and thus urged James to drop this vendetta, before making a secret phone call to Romeo, which confirmed fans’ suspicions that the pair are harbouring a big secret about the day of Rayne’s death.

‘W’ere just sticking to the plan, right?’, said Peri. ‘Telling no-one what we did to Rayne.’

Is this confirmation that Peri and Romeo had something to do with Rayne’s murder? Or did they perhaps do something else to Rayne prior to her death, therefore making this a red herring?

That remains to be seen, but there’s clearly more of this story that’s yet to unfold, so you’re just going to have to keep watching!

Rayne and Peri twist confirmed in Hollyoaks
Is Peri capable of murder? (Picture: Lime Pictures)

It’s the murder mystery on everyone’s lips – just who killed spiteful influencer Rayne Royce in Hollyoaks?

While we still have a while to find out amid upcoming twists and turns, Ruby O’Donnell told Metro.co.uk that she was recently told – and it’s someone the cast weren’t expecting!

In an exclusive interview with us, the Peri Lomax star declared: ‘I do know now what happens, but they really kept it hush for a long time. And it shocked us all!’

There are a whole hosts of suspects; Rayne was not a very popular person by any stretch, despite her avid online following.

At the heart of it is Peri, and Ruby is far from ruling out the possibility of her alter-ego snapping and murdering her.

‘I think every single character is capable of something if someone pushes them far enough in Hollyoaks.

‘Obviously, Rayne has pushed a lot of the 20-somethings to their absolute limits which is why she’s ended up dead. I like to think that Peri is a good character but we’ve seen characters turn in the past.’

That’s an understatement and a half! When asked if she would quite like to become the next killer, Ruby was on the fence.

Peri confronts Rayne in Hollyoaks
Peri is very much a prime suspect! (Picture: Lime Pictures)

After all, many villains would have to eventually leave the show; although there are still some killers wandering the village carefree (hi Warren).

The actress said: ‘It’s a difficult one because it really depends on what the storyline is. I do feel like if you’re a proper villain you do only have a certain shelf life, so if it was a good enough story that I felt needed exploring then I’d always be up for it.’

Either way, Peri is glad to be given the opportunity to be involved in such a high profile story, which launched Hollyoaks’ transition to an online viewing model.

‘I was dead excited,’ she grinned. ‘Everyone loves a whodunit and everyone wants to be part of the whodunit because it’s so exciting and it involves so many twists and turns.

‘I absolutely love working with the 20-something gang. When we found out that this was going to be the storyline and that we were all going to be involved we were so happy because we’re all friends in real life.

‘It’s just so much fun on set and we’re doing dramatic scenes but we can also find light relief in between which is great. I’m loving working with them all. They’re all amazing.’

The storyline, which is very soapily camp at points, is quite the far-cry from Ruby’s last plot on the show.

Earlier this year, Peri lost the love of her life Juliet to cancer in scenes that involved a lot of heavy and tearful input from the cast.

So what does Ruby prefer to do?

Juliet plans her own funeral with Peri's help in Hollyoaks
Peri’s story with Juliet was very different and heavy going (Picture: Lime Pictures)

She mused: ‘It’s very difficult with the really emotional ones, because they’re the issue based, hard-hitting tearjerkers which really get the audience feeling for you. But they can be so hard to get through.

‘I’m so glad that after the Juliet cancer storyline I’ve had this one, because it’s been a really nice contrast to not be crying all the time and having my girlfriend dying. So, I’m really enjoying filming this at the moment because it is so different from the Juliet stuff.

‘And it’s been lovely, because for so long it was just me and Niamh, it’s really nice to work with groups of people again and have multiple handers with loads of people in the scenes. Like festivals and the house, it was really nice to have that contrast.’

That said, Ruby does miss working with Niamh, who won critical acclaim for her portrayal of Juliet’s tragedy.

Confirming she has been catching up with her, Ruby told us: ‘She’s good, she’s been on lots of holidays and I think she’s enjoying having a bit of time off after the whole cancer storyline because that was quite intense when we filmed that. But, she’s good, and I miss her lots.’

It’s a big change for Ruby to both say goodbye to Niamh and have such a dramatic shift in storyline.

But that’s not the biggest change right now at Hollyoaks. Impressive seg-way, right?

In line with viewing habits, the Channel 4 episode of the show was scrapped, and viewers can now watch each episode 24 hours in advance of the E4 showing on TV.

While Ruby admitted to us that the team were unnerved by the news at first, once it was explained, everyone became fully behind it.

‘When everyone first got told, obviously there was a lot of uncertainty around what it was, but when you really think about life and how we’ve evolved now, everyone streams,’ she reflected.

‘That’s what Netflix is. That’s what everything on demand is. A lot less people now are watching the channels on TV, so when we got it fully explained to us, we’re all 100% backing it.

‘Our first week on streaming and E4 was this big stunt week, and it’s gone down really well from what I’ve seen! Listen, you’ve got to embrace the change. Change can be scary but if you’re in the right direction then you can’t really go wrong.

‘I think our viewers have gone up, so it’s obviously gone down well!’

Just this week, Ruby has marked an entire 10 years at Hollyoaks, first entering the show as a child. She can’t quite believe a decade has come round!

Ruby O'Donnell as Peri in Hollyoaks aged 12

She said: ‘I didn’t even know it was my ten year anniversary until the gorgeous fans were posting about it and I saw some of the edits. I’m forever grateful that I even got this job.

‘It’s changed my life. And the fact that I’m still doing it ten years later and still loving it, and still getting all these hard-hitting storylines, I’m very blessed. Very blessed.

We can all relate to how fast time goes, and it has flown by for Ruby, despite her entire teenage life took place in the job.

‘When you actually deep it like, what the hell? That’s insane!’

She added: ‘I was 12 when I started and now I’m an adult. My whole life has been [on this show]. But it doesn’t feel that long, it really doesn’t.

The thought of that being ten Christmases at Hollyoaks, like what? It’s crazy! But so much happens there that life moves so quick, like Hollyoaks does. Time does fly when you’re having fun, and that’s what it is for me.’

RayneFest proves traumatic for Romeo (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner) spirals out of control in Hollyoaks as he struggles to come to terms with the death of Rayne Royce (Jemma Donovan), with a special memorial to the influencer set to end in disaster.

Rayne, as fans of the Channel 4 soap will know, was murdered last month during her extravagant party at a posh mansion, with one of the attendees thought to be culprit.

The social media star’s secrets and lies were exposed in a truly explosive fashion during the bash, meaning that everyone in attendance had a reason to exact deadly revenge.

Brent (Jesse Fox), Rayne’s ex who was thought to have taken his own life, was prime suspect for a while, with upcoming scenes set to see him confess to the crime after he’s attacked.

His mum Cheryl, however, reckons that Romeo is the culprit, believing his sudden disappearance, not to mention the fact that he deleted all of his socials, is proof of his guilt.

James (Gregory Finnegan) has been determined to track his son down and upcoming scenes will see Romeo return to the village, with a special tribute to Rayne, titled #RayneFest, scheduled to take place.

The event brings to the village a plethora of Rayne’s fans, who are keen to pay tribute to the late influencer. It also brings Rayne’s mum to the village, and she’s determined to give Romeo a chance to prove how much he loved her daughter.

Romeo, however, is still struggling and a technical glitch on the big day proves difficult, riling him up in the wrong way as he lashes out – with it all being caught on a live stream!

Will this add further fuel to the fire for those who reckon Romeo is Rayne’s killer? That remains to be seen.

Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell), meanwhile, is also present for the event but just how will she factor in?

‘It was a weird one to film, the Raynefest!,’ actress Ruby O’Donnell told Metro.co.uk. ‘Because, obviously Rayne’s dead, so it was like “is this a funeral? Is this a celebration?”

It felt like a party, but then it also felt like a funeral. It was very confusing, especially for the grieving characters like Romeo.

Hollyoaks star Jude Monk McGowan has announced his engagement to partner Jessica Hern in an adorable Instagram post.

The Liam Donovan star shared a carousel of pictures documenting the happy day, which saw the couple agree to marry while on a beach in Kefalonia, Greece.

Alongside the photos in which Jessica proudly showed off her engagement ring, Jude wrote a sweet message to his bride to be.

‘Only you, always. You who has taught me what loving and true partnership really means.’

How lovely!

Other photos from their special day showed them enjoying a bottle of bubbly on the beach, as well as a boat trip in the sunshine.

Jude played the role of Liam Donovan in Hollyoaks from 2018 until his dramatic death in 2020, which saw him killed by sister Grace Black (Tamara Wall).

Grace put an end to Liam’s reign of terror after he took hostages in The Dog, watching as he hit his head while falling down the stairs to the cellar.

Speaking about his exit at the time, he said: ‘My time on Hollyoaks has been incredible. I’ve learned so much about the crafts of acting for camera.’

Though it has been three years since he was last on the show, his Hollyoaks co-stars were quick to congratulate him on his new life milestone.

‘Congratulations mate! Lovely news!’ Joel Dexter actor Rory Douglas-Speed wrote.

‘That ring,’ penned Kim Butterfield actress Daisy Wood-Davis, before adding, ‘so happy for you guys, beautiful couple.’

Jennifer Metcalfe, who plays Mercedes McQueen also got in on the action, leaving a series of love heart and flame emojis.

The actress is in a relationship with fellow Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan. They have a son called Ocean-Torin and welcomed their daughter, Fiáin-Luna, last November.

Announcing the news of their daughter’s arrival, Emmett – who played Brendan Brady in the show – shared an adorable picture of the baby, with the caption ‘3 days we met her…#ScanClan’.

Uploading an image to her Instagram stories of little Fiáin-Luna in a hospital cot, Claire recently told her followers that the family had a ‘very tough’ start to the weekend.

She wrote alongside: ‘We had a very tough start to the weekend, so glad our little love is on the mend, curveballs come out of nowhere, and sometimes it really does hit damn hard.’

Claire, who played Jacqui McQueen, is yet to confirm why their baby was in hospital.

Emmett and Claire lost a baby in July 2019, and Claire nearly lost her life.

Speaking about the ordeal in 2020, Claire said: ‘It’s baby loss awareness week and although I wasn’t quiet about our loss privately, I didn’t share it with the public, mainly I didn’t have the words at that time & perhaps I still don’t but if this post helps one family or person out there, perhaps my words were worth the wait…or not.’

The couple met when Emmett joined the cast of the Channel 4 soap in 2010, and they got married in New York on New Year’s Eve in 2015.

As well as his roles in Hollyoaks and Peaky Blinders, Emmett is also known for appearing in Derry Girls and ITV’s The Tower.
