Hollyoaks spoilers follow for Friday’s (September 29) episode that is now available to watch on Channel 4 streaming. The episode in question will air on E4 on Monday October 2 at 7pm.

Emotions were running high in Hollyoaks when Sam Chen-Williams (Matthew McGivern) returned to the village to reunite with his family.

The former policeman disappeared earlier this month after he was wrongfully accused of sending above texts to Zoe Anderson (Garcia Brown), which was actually the handiwork of Rayne Royce (Jemma Donovan), who deliberately set him up.

Given Sam’s previous track record of unsettling behaviour, his loved ones failed to believe his pleas of innocence, despite him having acknowledged his past mistakes.

Devastated that his family didn’t believe him, Sam subsequently departed the village, but he staged a surprise return earlier this week in the aftermath of Rayne’s murder.

Hollyoaks is on the move! Here's how to watch

Hollyoaks has a brand new schedule to better reflect viewing habits of TV audiences today.

The show will no longer air on Channel 4. Instead, viewers can get their daily fix on the station’s online platform, formerly known as 4OD and All4, weeknights at 7:30pm on Channel 4 streaming.

If streaming isn’t your thing or maybe you simply prefer to watch on TV then you can catch the show weeknights at 7pm on E4.

It turned out that, despite telling Lizzie (Lily Best) that he’d not heard from him, Dave (Dominic Power) had been in touch with Sam, with the pair meeting at the folly to discuss their respective situations.

Sam encouraged Dave to come clean to his loved ones, implying that they were both harbouring a secret, with the truth coming to light in Friday’s (September 29) edition of the Channel 4 soap, which you can stream now, as Sam properly returned to the village.

Dave admitted to his family that he hasn’t been paying the mortgage and therefore they are being evicted from their flat.

Sam, meanwhile, accepted Lizzie’s apology and revealed some news of his own, confirming that he would be heading off to Los Angeles for a new job as a personal trainer.

In emotional scenes, the former police officer bid farewell to his loved ones, sharing a traditional Chen-Williams hug with his nearest and dearest before getting into the back of a taxi and departing the eponymous village.

Sam’s characterisation has been problematic but actor Matthew McGivern has proven a real asset to Hollyoaks and we’re sad to him go.

His departure comes shortly after that of Maddy Smedley’s, who played Faye Fuller. Grace Black (Tamara Wall) was also written out after a decade, while Zara Morgan (Kelly Condron) and Damon Kinsella (Jacob Roberts) similarly waved goodbye to the village in the summer.

Hollyoaks streams weeknights at 7:30pm on Channel 4’s streaming platform, or catch episodes on TV weeknights at 7pm on E4.
