Manchester United have opened talks with their young star Omari Forson over a new long-term contract and want to send him out on loan in January, according to reports.

The 19-year-old forward has not yet made his professional senior debut for United but is thought to have already caught Erik ten Hag’s attention.

Forson started out in the youth ranks of Tottenham and West Ham before switching to Old Trafford in 2019, where he has hugely impressed.

He was playing for United U18s when he was just 16-years-old and signed his first professional United contract two years ago.

Forson helped United win the FA Youth Cup last year and joined the first-team this summer for the pre-season tour of the United States, where he was handed a start against Borussia Dortmund.

He was named on the bench when United faced Bayern Munich in the Champions League this term while he has been in top form at youth level – scoring six goals and providing two assists across six games in the Premier League 2, the UEFA Youth League and the EFL Trophy since the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign.

Forson has entered the final year of his current deal and according to the Manchester Evening News, United are looking to hand him a new long-term deal and he is one of the players they may send out on loan in the January window.

Meanwhile, United intend to trigger extensions in the contracts of Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka but are yet to decide on the future of Anthony Martial.

All three are in the same situation as their deals run until the end of the current season, but the club has the option to extend the contracts by a further year, until 2025.

United have largely struggled since the start of the season with Alan Shearer blaming the club’s owners for the current problems at Old Trafford.
